Being straight with you: because your notes live on your device, they don't sync across devices on their own — you can download a backup or save one to a folder on every plan (direct Google Drive, Dropbox, and OneDrive backup is planned). And we don't offer end-to-end encryption yet. If cross-device sync or E2EE is your top priority, an app like Standard Notes may fit better. If you want to speak your notes and own them, that's us.

Your notes, your device

Where are my notes stored?
On your device, in your browser — not on our servers. We never store your note content.
Do my notes sync across devices?
No — and that's by design. Your notes live on the device where you wrote them, so they won't automatically appear on another device or browser. To keep a copy elsewhere, export them or download a backup (any plan), or save a backup to a folder on your computer. Direct backup to Google Drive, Dropbox, and OneDrive is planned.
What happens if I clear my browser or switch devices?
Because your notes live on your device, clearing your browser's data or moving to a new device or browser means they won't be there. Keep a copy safe with export, or by downloading a backup (available on Free and Pro).
What is backup?
A one-way, on-demand copy of all your notes that you keep — available on every plan. Download a backup file, or save it to a folder on your computer. SpokenLeaf does not yet back up directly to Google Drive, Dropbox, or OneDrive — those cloud connections are planned. It never stores your notes on our servers, and it is not automatic sync.
What data does SpokenLeaf store about me?
Your email and sign-in, your plan and billing status, and how many transcription minutes you've used — and never your notes. Your account is your key for sign-in and billing; it doesn't hold your notes.
Do the AI features send my data anywhere?
Only when you choose to use them — and only to reputable, SOC 2-audited processors. Transcription sends your audio to AssemblyAI, which auto-deletes it after about a day and, because we've opted out of their model-training program, never uses it to train their models. Task extraction and insights send your note text to Perplexity's API, which keeps zero data and never trains on it. These features are optional: if you don't use them, that data never leaves your device. One honest caveat — this processing isn't end-to-end encrypted, because the providers need to read your data to do the work, then discard it.
Is there an Android app?
SpokenLeaf runs in the browser today, on desktop and on mobile. An Android app is on the way, and it brings a Quick Record widget you can place on your home screen — one tap starts recording without opening the app, and it keeps recording while the screen locks. Your notes still live on the device, the same as on the web.
